The recently published World Atlas of Obesity 2023 predicts that more than 4 billion people in the world, 51% of the global population, will be overweight and obese in 2035, up from 2.6 billion in 2020. It also points out that one in four people will be obese.
Economic, labor and social reasons are leading societies to eat more and more junk food and this has only one end, an increase in body fat which leads to numerous cardiorespiratory diseases. But this is only one of the problems.
The world runs the risk of not being able to produce enough food to meet its own demand by 2050.
It is estimated that by then the Earth will be home to 9 billion human beings. If the current structure of agriculture and animal husbandry continues, there will not be enough food for everyone by mid-century. The world’s population continues to grow beyond our means. So much so that, according to some estimates, in four decades it will be necessary to produce between 70 and 100% more food than we are putting on the market today. And all this without crushing the planet, of course.
But, believe it or not, society is taking its own measures as well:
The top health issues that consumers seek to remedy by taking nutritional supplements are immunity (66%), followed by energy (57%), cardiovascular health (50%) and digestive health (49%), according to a study by ADM
In this study we will also be able to observe how more than half of the people who go to the gym consume sports supplements to improve their health, their physical appearance and others, with an average of 4 supplements per individual.
We can also determine that there are two lines that are growing, one much faster than the other, processed junk food and food based on capsules or pills, preparations or shakes.
Pills and beverages for the future, viable ?

This is the case of ManΓ‘ Drink. A company that claims that a 330 ml dose covers, according to the manufacturer Heaven Labs, 20% of the daily nutritional needs of the human body. Made from natural ingredients such as seaweed lipids, coconut oil and oat fiber, “it provides up to 400 calories and can completely replace any meal of the day”.
But these products are really nothing new. Astronauts and the military have long had such things in their backpacks.

These rations, also prepared by Spanish companies such as Jomipsa, make basic rations, but also vegetarian and halal, of between 1,000 and 3,350 kilocalories per ration. Self-heating and with a shelf life of more than 20 months in the bag, they are an excellent energy and nutritional contribution for soldiers. They also manufacture others with a maximum shelf life of 30 months.
However, all this is nothing new. People with clinical difficulties are already being given this type of enteral feeding with various tubes.
However, nutrition professionals such as Magda Rafecas argue that this is totally detrimental to the exercise of chewing so new challenges also lie ahead for this type of practice.
On the other hand, Aora Life also sells other types of capsules dedicated to lowering anxiety and stress levels through what they call nutraceutical products:

They say that in the future, in 5 minutes we will take everything we need to meet our body’s nutritional requirements.
Huel has in fact been selling this type of product for years as “packaged food”, what they call “Complete food”. To do so, watch this video:
It’s funny because the more I review all these articles the more it reminds me of what we have been using for years many athletes in competition and it is none other than creatine, protein, branched amino acids or other supplements that help us in the incredible energy expenditure that we endure in competitions. However, it seems that this use is no longer created only for athletes, but also for people of any kind that either by laziness, lack of time or denial, decides to take a shake or ingest a few capsules.
And do you know what is one of the arguments of these companies?
Both companies claim that their products help reduce the carbon footprint of animal-based food production. Yes, that of reducing meat consumption.
In the case of the American company, “Huel is made with sustainable plant-based ingredients such as oats, peas, rice, flaxseed, coconut and sunflower”, while the Spanish company uses “oats, corn meal, soy flour, Andalusian virgin olive oil powder, pea protein, flaxseed, salt, flavorings…”. As you can see, not a trace of animal proteins.
Personal Conclusion
From my point of view there are too many of us. And I believe that this is also the opinion of the big governments, the high spheres and the highly influential people of our planet.
It may be conspiratorial to predict any future, but if something Science Fiction movies have taught us is that many of the ideas are fulfilled over the years. A world similar to Elysium could very well exist:
A world in which there are terrible food shortages based on overpopulation, pollution and drought, as well as socio-economic problems or high disaster zones. A world in which classes have become even more polarized, exerting a stronger pressure on large uncontrolled communities, away from diseases, pandemics and wars.
And you, don’t you think so? I’ll leave you with a few final thoughts. Thank you very much
