Steven Hiroyuki Aoki (Miami, November 30, 1977) better known as Steve Aoki, is an American-Japanese EDM DJ and producer and founder of the record label Dim Mak Records. He is currently ranked #10 by DJ Mag magazine.


 

The Dim Mak clothing line collection was launched in 2006.4 A new fashion designed by Steve and his sister Devon Aoki, was launched in 1999. They have collaborated with Ksubi founders/owners George Gorrow and Dan Solo to launch this project together. "We've been preparing for two years, from the early stages." said Aoki.5

 

Aoki and his friend Greger, the owner of WeSC, came up with an idea together to make the "Aoki headphones." Different shades of green are used, as it was Aoki's favorite color at the time.6 Each season Aoki has plans to design new headphones for WeSC. Aoki is also backed by KR3W clothing and Supra footwear, where he develops and designs a whole range of clothing and shoes for the two companies under his name.

 

Aoki co-owns Korean barbecue restaurant Shin with Danny Masterson, Julian Casablancas of The Strokes, Mark Ronson, Laura Prepon, Jerry Rivera, among others. He is also co-owner of a call management company Deckstar with DJ AM, along with his managers and Pablo Rosenberg. Under the Deckstar Management division, Dim Mak Management has been formed to manage some of the label's artists and other DJs.

 

In November 2009, Aoki created his own magazine titled "Aoki" through a celebrity magazine publishing company called MYMAG.7

 

In January 2012 he released his debut album, titled Wonderland with collaborations with Will.I.Am, LMFAO, Kid Cudi, Travis Barker (Blink 182) or Rivers Cuomo (Weezer) among others and from which he has already released the music videos for Earthquakey People, Ladi Ladi, Heartbreaker and Cudi The Kid.8

 

In late 2013 Steve Aoki broke two Guinness World Records with the help of his fans during a live performance in Los Angeles. The first record was for getting the most glowsticks glowing for 30 seconds and the second for keeping the crowd screaming continuously for over two and a half minutes. The record was certified on the spot by Guinness representatives and Steve Aoki was subsequently presented with his corresponding plaques.9

His second studio album, called Neon Future, came out in the second half of 2014 and was released in two parts, the first in August and the second, Neon Future II in the first months of 2015. Again the label chosen for the release will be Ultra Records and his personal label Dim Mak Records. Aoki promises to break genres with this new album. Neon Future's advance single is "Rage The Night Away. "10

 

The fourth studio album Kolony released in July 2017 includes collaborations with Lil Uzi Vert, 2 Chainz, Gucci Mane, T-Pain and Migos among others. Producers include DVBBS, Bad Royale and Yellow Claw.11.

On November 9, 2018, Steve Aoki releases his fifth studio album, and the third part of his Neon Future saga, "Neon Future III". The album includes collaborations with artists such as Louis Tomlinson, BTS, Nicky Romero, Blink-182, Daddy Yankee, Don Diablo and Ina Wroldsen, among others.
