What is Gala Games?

Gamers and consumers, in general, have been losing control over their content as the internet has become more mainstream and physical media has been slowly phased out. Many games have developed models where players can buy skins and other items using in game currencies that require real world money. This has added a new experience to players as they are able to customize their avatars and obtain rare items. These players often spend hundreds of dollars on these in game items, and as easily as they can be purchased, they can be taken away. With a ban from a game admin, players can lose access to everything they have paid for. All of the time and money spent on getting these items disappear completely. The gaming company keeps all of the money and the player is now left with nothing. Players may purchase items, but they do not own their items like they should. Players buy the privilege of using an item, but are never able to truly own it. This is what Gala Games is changing.

The tight control of assets and game accounts has stifled a lot of creative thinking.  Gala Games desires to blow the doors wide open and give players back the control they deserve. This is happening in Gala Games’ Town Star. Players are able to own an in-game item such as a CraneBot. This item can help speed up the building process in the game, and at any moment a player can trade, sell, or give the item away to another user. This is the power of Non-Fungible Tokens, or NFTs, and they are able to exist because of blockchain.

A CraneBot is an NFT and, more specifically, an ERC (Ethereum Request for Comment) token on the Ethereum blockchain. This means it exists on Ethereum’s network and is completely separate from Gala Games. Gala Games does not have the ability to take away any NFT from a player. This means that if a player were to get banned from playing Town Star, they still own any item they purchased and do not have to worry about having anything taken away.

This NFT item does not have to be used in Town Star only. This item can be used in another game if a company decides they want to integrate a specific item into their game. This is something Gala Games wants to encourage as it gives player’s NFTs more use. A developer could make a game where players are able to look at their NFT items in a 3D space. They could ride their CraneBot around, or look at their Wheat Stands as they blow through the wind. The possibilities are endless.

Gala Games wants players to not only own their in-game items, we want our Gala Games players to have a voice in the roadmap.  We want to enlist them, via distributed voting mechanisms, to help determine what games we should develop and get funding. This is done through the Founder’s Nodes voting mechanism. Founder’s Nodes were able to vote to allow Fortified to be accepted in the Gala Games ecosystem and if the vote ended up being no, the game would have been rejected.

While there are many great uses for blockchain technology, Gala Games believe games to be the most exciting application. The company is built on experienced game developers and players. We know that billions of people on earth play games and share in our love for them.

Once you play a game where you can freely own and trade your own content, would you play anything else? We wouldn’t…

The GALA token is the digital utility token of the Gala Games ecosystem. It is cryptographically secured and native to the Gala Games ecosystem. GALA is transferable between users, and they have full control over how to use it. GALA powers the Gala Games Ecosystem. Founder’s Nodes earn GALA by supporting the ecosystem that games are able to run on. The first game produced for the Gala Games Ecosystem, Town Star, has a reward structure where the top 100 players are rewarded in GALA.

GALA is a non-refundable utility token which will be used as the medium of exchange between participants in the Gala Games ecosystem. The goal of introducing GALA is to provide a convenient and secure mode of payment and settlement between participants who interact within the Gala Games ecosystem (for example, payment of digital goods or in-game items), GALA does not in any way represent any shareholding, participation, right, title, or interest in Gala Games, their respective affiliates, or any other company, enterprise or undertaking. GALA does not entitle holders to any promise of fees, dividends, revenue, profits or investment returns, and are not intended to constitute securities. This token was created to be utilized on the Gala Games ecosystem, and ownership of GALA carries no rights, express or implied.

Items held on the Ethereum blockchain can be accessed using a variety of open-source and cryptographically secure wallets and storage mechanisms. The wallet on the GALA website and in the GALA app is an open-source, keyphrase secured, wallet, and once you have created the wallet, only the account owner has access to the funds and items stored within that wallet.

What is GALA?

Founder Node

What is a Founder’s Node?

A Founder’s Node is part of the largest decentralized gaming network in the world.  There will only ever be 50,000 of these nodes.

Everyone who operates a Founder’s Node is contributing to the growth of this decentralized gaming network.  By running a Founder’s Node, you are working to give players real ownership of their assets and content.

Is all of this information permanent or is it subject to change?

All of this information is subject to change.  Those questions with answers that are most likely to change will be marked with an asterisk (*). One type of change that can occur comes as a result of the consensus vote, which node owners have the power to make.  It is one of the most powerful benefits of being a node operator.

What is a Consensus Vote?

In the node network, a consensus vote is a voting opportunity presented to all Founder’s Node operators.  Oftentimes these votes will be about which games come to the Gala Games platform, but there are other types of votes as well.

A brief example of this was the vote which presented node operators with this statement: “We believe that decentralization is extremely important, so we are proposing that on July 21st, rather than maintaining the current ratio, we shift the ratio so that the Node Operator rewards stay the same.”  What this meant was that Gala Games took the brunt of the halving.  Node operators almost unanimously voted yes on this one.

What Operating Systems are Founder’s Nodes currently compatible with?

Founder’s Nodes are currently compatible with Windows 10, macOS 10.10 (Yosemite) and higher, and Ubuntu Linux 20.04.

Am I making an investment in Gala Games when I buy and run a Founder’s Node?

A Founder’s Node is strictly not an investment in Gala Games.  Nodes are meant to be the backbone of the next gaming revolution.  What this means is that if Gala Games is ever faced with the choice between supporting the gaming platform or improving the earnings of the node owners, we will always choose the gaming platform.  Gala Games does not and cannot run your Node for you.

What is the difference between Gala and GALA?

GALA is the digital asset and Gala references Gala Games, the gaming company.

What is GALA distribution and what happens when it’s complete?*

GALA is distributed daily to Founder’s Nodes that have operated for at least the required time in each cycle; this GALA is earned by working to help Gala Games in our goal of providing a truly decentralized gaming network.

Distribution is based on dividing the daily distributed GALA among a point system, which you can read about in detail below.  Each July, the daily GALA distribution will be cut in half.  In July of 2021, however, that halving will not affect node operators. This is because node operators, through the consensus voting feature of their nodes, voted for Gala Games to receive less of a distribution.

You can see daily distribution information on your account by clicking on “My Node,” followed by “View Full Data,” which is next to “Global.”

You may also use one of the community-created websites, GalaBase.io, by going to https://galabase.io/distro/report/ and clicking on Point Report.

When a distribution is complete, GALA’s circulation across the network will still yield earnings for Founder’s Nodes.  NFTs are also a current and future part of the incentives that you can earn from running a Founder’s Node.

How does the point system work?*

In order to determine how the GALA distribution is divided, we have utilized a point system.  At the time of distribution, all of the points are added up and the GALA is split between these points.

Our current point system is listed here:

Running a Node for 6 hours in a cycle:                 1 Point

Your referral runs a node for 6 hours in a cycle (this is two levels deep):   0.1 Points

Your referral purchases a node: 10 points (One day only)

If, for example, you have two nodes and one referral that also has a node, your daily point value

would be 2.1.

What kind of work will I be providing by running a Founder’s Node?*

There will be a “see-saw” algorithm that will determine which resources are most needed by the network.  For example, if the network has tons of storage but very little processing power, then it will give higher rewards for processing than storage; this would incentivize additional processing suppliers.  In short, the network will adapt to its needs.

Will there be more nodes in the future?

There will only ever be 50,000 Founder’s Nodes; in the future, there will be other types of nodes that exist to support the network.

The Gala Games Ecosystem’s main goal is creating a decentralized gaming network that is able to give the power of gaming back to the players. One of the ways this is currently done is through NFTs. NFTs allow players to own items that can be used in game. This ecosystem will expand and will allow more than Founder’s Nodes to help contribute to the network. In the future this will be expanded to allow Games themselves to run on the network. This will require additional resources and creating a more decentralized robust network will make this possible.

Above is a simple diagram to show roughly how the system will work once it is fully expanded.

There will be three types of nodes:

Founder’s Nodes: These are the “Tier 1” nodes that only 50,000 will ever exist.

Paid Node: These are nodes which will apply for specific games and will operate on a smart-contract based “rental” structure. Those who rent them will receive 100% of the GALA and NFTs destined for that node license. The fees for the rental, which will be collected via smart contract, will be split between supporting the Gala Games Node Ecosystem management and being sent to the Founder’s Nodes.

Free Node: These nodes will be used for both Proof-of-Work and Proof-of-Storage, and can be spun up by anyone who wants to support the network. They will receive rewards, but the majority of the rewards allocated to the specific node instance will go to support the network.

The entire system will operate on three basic consensus mechanisms.

Proof-of-Work: This will enable people with miners to support the network through providing hash power. The specific points for the hash power will be determined by a decentralized algorithm which awards points based on what is most required by the network (for example, if the network requires more computational resources, then hash power may receive higher rewards than storage).

Proof-of-Stake/Availability: This is the closest analog to the way the node system currently operates. With this, each node license will help verify transactions using a very lightweight protocol. For this, they will receive one point in the distribution.

Proof-of-Storage: The long-term goal of Gala Games is to make the Gala Game Ecosystem exist in an entirely decentralized fashion. The decentralized Gala Games ecosystem would like to be able to have games hosted on the node ecosystem itself, completely removing any requirement whatsoever for centralized hosting like Amazon S3 instances. The specific points for the storage will be determined by a decentralized algorithm which awards points based on the location, speed, and reliability of the storage.

By combining these three forms of supporting the network, the distribution of NFTs and GALA can be made fair, making it so that people are rewarded for actual contribution to the network, not just for standing up node licenses.

Will Other Forms of Mining Come to GALA?

What is Gala X?

Exchanges may choose to add a different ticker for various reasons. This could include database entries that have a similar ticker preventing them from reusing it.  A good example of this would be BTC also being known as XBT. These differing symbols look different, but are referring to the same cryptocurrency.

GALAX can be a trading pair on exchanges that are referring to the GALA token. It may look different than GALA but it is the same ERC-20 token on the Ethereum network.

If ever unsure if a GALAX ticker is referring to GALA or a different cryptocurrency, a person can compare the contract address with the one displayed on the exchange to ensure it is the correct one. The GALA contract address is this: 0x15D4c048F83bd7e37d49eA4C83a07267Ec4203dA .
